OUR MATERIALS

The foundation of our alpaca clothing. At NORGÄTE, materials are not a detail — they are the foundation of every garment we create. We work with natural and technical fibers selected for their performance, longevity, and responsible origin. Rooted in Peru and developed through specialized Peruvian mills, our materials reflect centuries of textile knowledge combined with a contemporary approach to design. From alpaca fibers sourced at their origin in the Andes to carefully selected cottons and innovative blends, each material is chosen to honor both the craft behind it and the person who wears it, shaping timeless alpaca clothing and refined alpaca clothes designed to last.

OUR THREE MAIN TYPES OF MATERIALS

#1 Animal Fibers

Alpaca Royal

Ultra fine, rare and exceptionally smooth.

Alpaca Royal is the finest and rarest grade of alpaca fiber, valued for its ultra fine diameter and smooth, even feel. It offers warmth without weight while remaining breathable and comfortable across seasons. Its fineness creates a clean surface and refined finish, supporting garments with lasting softness and a polished appearance. Our Alpaca Royal is sourced in Peru and spun and finished by specialized Peruvian factories with deep expertise in alpaca fibers, ensuring quality, traceability and responsible production.

Alpaca Suri

Long, radiant and exceptionally gentle fiber.

Alpaca Suri is defined by its long, smooth fibers, which create a fluid drape and a naturally luminous surface. Known for its silky feel, it offers warmth and breathability while remaining comfortable against the skin. The length of the fiber supports durability and helps garments retain their shape and finish over time, making it well suited for refined and elegant knitwear. Our Alpaca Suri yarns are sourced in Peru and processed by specialized factories with strong expertise in alpaca fibers, highlighting a more expressive and textural side of alpaca craftsmanship.

Alpaca Huacaya

Soft structure, natural balance.

Alpaca Huacaya is a soft and resilient alpaca fiber known for its crimped structure, which provides warmth without weight and allows garments to maintain their shape. Naturally breathable, thermoregulating and hypoallergenic, it adapts well to changing temperatures while remaining lightweight and durable. Resistant to pilling and comfortable to wear, Huacaya alpaca is ideal for refined knitwear designed for everyday use. Our alpaca yarns are sourced from specialized Peruvian mills and developed under responsible production standards, reflecting the quality, traceability and textile expertise of Peru, where alpaca fiber originates.

Merino Wool

Fine, breathable and comfortable fiber.

Merino wool comes from Merino sheep raised mainly in regions with strong wool traditions such as Australia,New Zealand and South Africa, where climate and breeding result in fine and resilient fibers. Known for its breathability and natural temperature regulation, merino provides warmth without heaviness while offering durability and consistent comfort over time. The merino wool yarn we use is spun and finished in Peru by specialized factories experienced in processing fine wool fibers, combining high-quality raw material with local technical expertise and responsible production standards.

Andean Highland Wool

Structure, resistance and natural warmth.

Andean Highland wool is a robust natural fiber sourced from high-altitude regions of Peru and used mainly in blends with alpaca and other fibers. Its primary role is to add structure, resistance and extra warmth, helping garments retain their shape and durability over time. With a firmer hand feel than finer wools, it reinforces the fabric while still allowing comfort and breathability. Our Andean Highland wool is sourced and processed in Peru by specialized factories with strong expertise in local fibers and responsible production practices.

Silk

Smooth, light and brilliant.

Mulberry silk is a natural fiber obtained from silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves, resulting in a smooth and even filament. Valued for its natural luminosity and comfortable feel, it supports breathability and gentle temperature regulation while remaining pleasant against the skin. In garments, mulberry silk adds fluidity and a clean surface without adding weight, making it suitable for refined and easy-to-wear pieces. The silk yarns we use are carefully selected and processed in specialized factories that follow responsible production standards, ensuring quality, consistency and long-term performance.

#2 NATURAL PLANT-BASED FIBERS

Pima Cotton

Extra-long fibers, refined softness.

Pima cotton is considered one of the finest cotton varieties in the world, valued for its extra-long fibers and naturally smooth surface. It offers an even, soft feel and a clean appearance, making it well suited for garments focused on comfort and quality. Pima cotton also performs well in blends, where it enhances softness while maintaining strength and consistency. The Pima cotton we use is Peruvian Pima, sourced and processed in Peru, one of the most recognized origins for this cotton variety worldwide.

Organic Cotton

Pure feel, low-impact origin.

Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or harmful chemicals, resulting ina clean and natural fiber with a lower environmental impact. It offers breathability and softness, making it suitable for garments worn close to the body as well as for blended compositions. We use organic cotton both on its own and in blends, where it helps balance comfort and ease of wear. Our organic cotton is sourced and processed in Peru through responsible production practices focused on quality and long-term use.

Tanguis Cotton

Resilient fiber, everyday reliability.

Tanguis cotton is a native Peruvian cotton variety known for its strength, resilienceand consistent performance over time. Its fiber structure provides stability and resistance, making it well suited for garments that require durability while remaining breathable and easy to wear. We use Tanguis cotton both on its own and in blends, where it helps reinforce the fabric and support long-term use. Our Tanguis cotton is sourced and processed in Peru, reflecting local agricultural heritage and solid textile expertise.

Peruvian Cotton

Versatile fiber, local expertise.

Peruvian cotton is widely recognized for its quality and versatility, adapting easily to different garment types and uses. It offers reliable performance across seasons and works well both as a main material and in blends, where it contributes balance and stability to the fabric. We work with this cotton through established local supply chains and production partners, reflecting Peru’s long-standing textile knowledge and a consistent focus on quality and long-term use.

Viscose

Smooth drape, fluid movement.

Viscose is a regenerated fiber made from plant-based cellulose, valued for its smooth touch, fluid movement and breathable feel. In our collections, viscose is used exclusively in blends, where it helps fabrics drape naturally and move with ease while supporting a clean and fluid surface. Combined with other fibers, it balances softness and structure, reducing stiffness and enhancing the overall feel of the garment. Our viscose is selected and processed through responsible production processes focused on quality and long-term performance.

#3 TECHNICAL & NON-NATURAL ELEMENTS

Donegal

Textured surface, visual depth.

Donegal refers to a textured yarn style defined by small contrasting flecks distributed throughout the fiber, creating visual depth and surface variation. Valued for the character it adds to knitwear, it introduces texture without relying on prints or heavy design elements. We use Donegal-style yarnsmainly asan accent material, combined with other fibers to add warmth, structure and visual interest. These yarns are developed and spun in Peru by specialized factories experienced in textured yarn production, ensuring consistency and long-term performance.

Recycled Polyamide

Technical support, added durability and structure.

Recycled polyamide is a regenerated technical fiber used exclusively in blends and structural elements within our garments. It works in combination with natural fibers such as alpaca, Andean Highland Wool and merino, where it is integrated internally to support structure and shape retention. Its role is to reinforce the fabric and extend the lifespan of the garment without altering the natural feel of the outer fibers. The recycled polyamide we use comes from certified regenerated sources and is processed through responsible production practices that help reduce reliance on virgin synthetic materials.
