Alpaca by Nature
Alpaca is one of the lowest-impact luxury fibers available today, shaped by the way alpacas live, graze, and adapt to the Andean ecosystem. At NORGÄTE, sustainability begins with understanding the full world behind the fiber: the land, the animals, the people, and the time required at every stage.
Alpaca fiber contains little to no lanolin, which makes it less likely to cause irritation than many other animal fibers. This is one of the reasons alpaca is so highly valued for softness, comfort, and everyday wear.
Alpaca fiber supports a balanced wearing experience across changing temperatures, retaining warmth in the cold while remaining breathable and comfortable in milder conditions. This natural thermal performance is part of what makes alpaca especially valued in everyday knitwear.
Alpaca fiber naturally occurs in more than 22 shades, from ivory to deep black. These natural colours reduce the need for dyeing, saving water, energy, and chemicals.
Alpacas are naturally adapted to fragile high-altitude ecosystems. They graze by gently trimming grass without pulling it from the root, allowing pastureland to regenerate while their soft padded feet minimize soil erosion.
